Lichfield is located in the county of Staffordshire and is amongst a few parishes in Britain to have acquired city status, because of the fact that though small, it has a cathedral. Lichfield is situated north of Birmingham, on the A51 road, near the A515, A5 and A38. Famous for being the home of the lone three-spite cathedral in England and Europe, the wonderful city of Lichfield still preserves its original Olde World image and its significance as an ecclesiastical hub, according to Vernon Pethard, Managing Director of www.newhomesforsale.co.uk, the UK's leading new homes website.

Lichfield’s early origins are unknown. During the first century, a Roman fortress was constructed two miles south of the existing city at the crossing of the key roads of Watling Street and Ryknild Street. Following the Roman withdrawal in the fifth century, a Celtic community may have existed in this area. The development of Lichfield was consolidated under Bishop Clinton in the twelfth century. The city suffered considerably during the Civil War in the seventeenth century but managed to recover.
